Illinois is the latest state to raise the age for tobacco purchases

(CNN)Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation on Sunday that raises the legal age for purchasing cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products from 18 to 21. Teen smoking rates have declined over the years, but advocates warn that the popularity of e-cigarettes threatens to reverse the progress. Some tobacco and e-cigarette companies have signaled support for Tobacco 21 policies.
