Judge orders key Mueller witness facing child porn charge be held in jail until trial

(CNN)A federal judge on Friday ordered George Aref Nader to stay in jail until his trial for transporting child pornography, citing the danger the former witness to Robert Mueller’s probe poses to the community. During a contentious hearing, Nader’s defense attorneys unsuccessfully pleaded with the judge to release him from jail, so he could move to a long-term medical facility. Nader recently had open-heart surgery and is dealing with a “very serious health condition,” his lawyers said. Nader’s lawyers said he was prepared to tap into his $3 million net worth and hire a private security firm to provide around-the-clock armed guards outside his hospital room. The judge balked and suggested that Nader could just stop paying the guards, allowing …

New Yorker Undergoes Surgery To Remove Brain Tumor Only To Astonish Doctors With Rare Parasitic Infection

This time last year, Rachel Palma didn’t feel like herself. She had started feeling numbness along the right side of her body, was experiencing episodes of confusion, and was having nightmares despite not having a past medical history that would explain such symptoms. Plus, she was young and otherwise healthy. The sudden and unexpected neurological symptoms prompted her primary care doctor to order an MRI that led to a more “troubling and distressing” finding: a small lesion in the left frontal part of her brain that, given its location, coordinated with her right-sided symptoms. “Based on the imaging at the time and her clinical presentation and history, we thought we saw what appeared to be a brain tumor,” Jonathan Rasouli, chief resident of …

A Google Walkout organizer just left the company, saying if they wont lead, we will

Claire Stapleton, a longtime Google employee who helped organize a 20,000-person walkout of Google employees last November over the company’s handling of sexual harassment allegations, announced today on Medium that she has left the outfit. She cites her health, saying she is having another child this fall. But she also says the move ties to retaliation she has alleged she faced after helping stage the walkout, writing: “I made the choice after the heads of my department branded me with a kind of scarlet letter that makes it difficult to do my job or find another one. If I stayed, I didn’t just worry that there’d be more public flogging, shunning, and stress, I expected it.” Stapleton — who joined …

Media playback is unsupported on your device Media captionBercow: ‘Simply not going to happen’ The Speaker of the House, John Bercow, says ending the current session of Parliament to force through a no-deal Brexit is “simply not going to happen”. Tory leadership candidate Dominic Raab has suggested he would be prepared to shut down Parliament to ensure the UK leaves the EU on 31 October. But the suggestion of using the process – known as prorogation – has led to criticism from many MPs. The SNP’s Pete Wishart called the proposal a “subversion of democracy”. Leader of the House Mel Stride also said a new prime minister would “not necessarily” be in place before MPs take their summer recess. Image …

Elizabeth Warren Has A Plan And A Story

DETROIT ― . The choice of locale had little to do with state’s Democratic primary, which comes well into the cycle on March 10, and everything to do with symbolism. Michigan is among the politically critical states Donald Trump won narrowly in 2016. This was Warren’s way of saying that she can win there by seizing one of his signature issues: bringing factory jobs back to the U.S. The Massachusetts senator has been doing a lot of that lately. She rolled out her opioid plan, two states ravaged by the epidemic, and introduced a plan to protect public lands. When it was time to sketch out a scheme to increase affordable housing, Mississippi. Siege: Trump under Fire by Michael Wolff review

Michael Wolffs second bite at the Trump presidency speculates on how the fiasco will end The Trump presidency began as Kim Jong-un, Michael Wolffs siege of Mafeking, let alone that of Leningrad. The war of attrition waged by Wolff and his fellow journalists has hardly worn Trump down; he retains the freedom of the air, tweeting out a daily barrage of lies and insults and jetting off to stoke up bigots in midwestern arenas or embarrass foreign heads of state who wince as they welcome him on to their soil. Mostly Siege retells scandalous stories that are pretty familiar, with few fresh disclosures. Despite the indiscreet tattle dribbled into his ear by the disgruntled Melania in hospital for a week …
