It feels like a lifetime since Tiger was last on top. Here’s how the world has changed since then

(CNN)Tiger Woods made one of the greatest comebacks in sports when he won the Masters on Sunday. In 2014, ISIS captured global attention when it announced the creation of a so-called caliphate — an Islamic state led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi that would span Iraq, Syria and beyond. The terror group attracted thousands of would-be jihadists from around the world with its social media recruiting tactics. At the height of its power, it reigned over an area the size of Portugal, with nearly 8 million people under its rule. Last month, ISIS lost its final physical stronghold in Syria, bringing an end to the caliphate — though experts argue the terror group is still a threat. A black man was …

Our daughter’s anxiety disorder went undiagnosed for years. Here’s what I wish we’d known.

We knew something wasn’t right with our daughter. We just didn’t know what was wrong. As a parent, it can be hard to determine when a child’s behaviors fall into “weird but normal” and when something is truly “off.” Kids go through phases. They struggle as they figure out their changing minds and emotions. They get nervous or needy for a spell, and then they’re okay. But sometimes they’re not okay. Sometimes a phase lasts too long to be a phase, and you have to dig to discover what’s really going on. Our oldest daughter had always had some intermittent nervousness, but nothing extraordinary. As she entered the teen years, she seemed to be more anxious more often, but we …

Thawing Permafrost Could Release Anthrax-Causing Bacteria In Siberia

Thawing ice in the Earth’s polar zones is releasing all kinds of nasties. Think prehistoric viruses, nuclear fallout, greenhouse gas, and anthrax-causing spores. Experts are now warning that rapid warming in Russia’s Yakutia republic could be putting residents at risk of the latter plus other ancient diseases, The Telegraph reports.  Yakutia (aka the Republic of Sakha) lies in Siberia’s northeast and covers some of the coldest permanently inhabited places on the planet, with average winter temperatures regularly dropping below 30°C (-22°F). And yet, it is also experiencing some of the greatest warming in relation to climate change. In just 10 years, average temperatures in Yakutia’s capital Yakutsk have risen by 2.5°C. That throws up all sorts of dilemmas, not least the collapse of infrastructure specifically built to cope with the region’s …

Ryan Zinke is quickly parlaying his time in President Donald Trump’s cabinet into a lucrative private career. Cultural appropriation is a good thing particularly for business

Entrepreneurs have been building businesses for thousands of years from the ideas of cultures before them For as long as I can remember my now 80-year-old mother and I have been having lunch every week at the same delicatessen near my office in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. Its called Katzs Deli Kitchen and you can look it up. Katzs Deli is excellent. The food is great and the service is consistent. Being Jewish I have a lot of experience eating at Jewish delis and, as Jewish delis (and small businesses) go, I consider Katzs to be one of the best. Oh, by the way, the owners arent Jewish. Theyre Asian. Yes, Asian. The cooks are Asian and so are a few …
